And the Rest (7/21): (New) Avengers & San Diego CCI News

Thought I’d roll up the week in one post as Wolverine doesn’t exactly take center stage in either of the Avengers books out this week…

Avengers #3 (preview)
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Pencils: John Romita, Jr.
Inks: Klaus Janson

From Marvel: “The time space continuum is broken! And the Avengers must travel to the far flung future to see exactly what terrible mess their children have made of the world. But maybe, just maybe, Kang didn’t tell our heroes the truth about what has gone wrong. Guest starring the Next Avengers, the Future Imperfect Hulk and the Amazing Spider-Girl! Yeah, you heard us! Another blockbuster issue from Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita, Jr.! Plus! Another chapter in the untold oral history of the Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis…!”

In stores July 21, 2010.
.

I gotta be honest with you, I don’t think Wolverine belongs in the above, adjective-less iteration of the Avengers…

New Avengers #2 (preview)
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Penciler: Stuart Immonen
Inks: Wade Von Grawbadger

From Marvel: “All new Marvel magic by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen! The Avengers don’t even get a chance to move in to their new digs when a dimensional invasion tears right into the heart of the team. This is a story that wlll completely reinvent the rules of magic in the Marvel Universe and have long- lasting effects on a handful of your favorite Marvel characters. Plus: an Avenger disappears! Backup feature: Another brand new oral history of the Avengers chapter by Bendis!”

In stores July 21, 2010.

Now this, this is where Wolverine belongs.

Great dialogue and more down-to-Earth action — even if it is magic…

There is one other pseudo-appearance this week with Wolverine appearing on a t-shirt and poster in Marvel Zombies 5 #5 (preview), but I don’t think it really counts…

In San Diego Comic-Con news (see full details), Marvel revealed several Wolverine tidbits…

  • ‘Wolverine: The Best There Is’ debuts in December by Charlie Huston and Juan Jose Ryp…
  • ‘Wolverine’, ‘Daken’ and ‘X-23’ will create a pseudo Wolverine universe, at least according to Daniel Way…

———————-

Finally, probable/possible Wolverine appearances for the upcoming week (7/28/10)…

Franken-Castle #19 (preview): Does Wolverine finally appear?
Uncanny X-Men #526 (preview): Wolverine confirmed in preview…
Wolverine Origins #50 (preview): Series finale…
Wolverine Weapon X #15 (preview): ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ concludes…
World War Hulks: Wolverine vs. Captain America #2 (preview): Another conclusion…
X-Campus #2 (no preview): European version of X-Men continues…

Pseudo wolverine universe? Really? On top of being on every team… Why does it seem like theyre taking all of the worst ideas possible and giving them all to wolverine? Like some sick individual is trying do dilute the depth that he used to have with just the biggest overflow of novelty crap.. ugh.. Frustrating. I just want a monthly and x-men, x-force can stay too :)

Well they want to make it a line of comics like the Avengers where all the stories and titles are aware of each other. It’s not really a bad thing, it could help to avoid some of the continuity issues. Well except that Way is involved.

haha yeah, since he had continuity issues even with one series. I guess I just really dislike this new like, legion of clawed beings now just robbing Wolverine of his uniqueness and coolness. I mean, even when it was just Wolverine and Sabretooth I sometimes thought they were too close of characters back in the day. And now we have what, 5 of them? Imagine how stupid a legion of continuous different Cyclops characters would be. One’s a girl, one shoots green blasts out of one eye, and they’re all battling to be head optic-blast guy, one has a stupid… Read more »

Great dialogue and Bendis don’t belong in the same sentence…

Take a look at Powers #1 & 2 (first series). That is some seriously good dialogue. At least, IMHO…
