Siege #4 Open Thread: Dark Avengers #16 & New Avengers Finale

It seems ‘Dark Reign’ is finally coming to a close this week with ‘Siege’ #4, ‘Dark Avengers’ #16 and ‘New Avengers Finale’, so I am combining all three titles into one convenient open thread…

As always, share your thoughts on the wrap up of ‘Siege’. Was it satisfying? Worth the wait? Or a letdown after all this time?

Facebook comments:

  1. Let me add my thoughts in order…

Siege #4: Kind of a letdown after all these years of buildup. I just don’t buy the ‘Heroic Age’ after so many years of down and dirty political machinations and lawbreaking by fugitive superheroes. A little too convenient a wrapup for my tastes.

Dark Avengers #16: Interesting aftermath. I really like how Victoria Hand was handled. Ditto for the Ares’ child. The Norman Osborn soliloquy at the end felt forced — we all know Osborn never should have been in charge in the first place.

New Avengers Finale: Terrific battle sequence. Really good. But if you are to invoke the President as the good guy in this story, you might NOT want his new publicly endorsed heroes to torture a suspect in custody with such glee to get information. Waterboarding anyone?

On a side note, the President doesn’t have the authority to “toss” the Superhuman Registration Act. That would be Congress, with the President’s signature. And the exact same issues that caused the act to be passed into law are still at hand — only conveniently ignored in the aftermath.

Finally, Luke Cage’s soliloquy to wrap up the series felt so forced — so desperate to give meaning to a series that quite frankly was all about breaking the law in the name of a political disagreement.

I mean, seriously, if someone had the power to knock down buildings and became a vigilante claiming to be fighting criminals while causing millions of dollars in property damages in defiance of the local and federal authorities, don’t you think we should know their names?

    Maybe it’s just me.
