Wolverine Files Update XL: Ch-Changes

I’ve been contemplating some Wolverine Files website changes for a few months now, and today is as good a time as any to roll them out.

So without further ado…

  1. Instead of trying to review every issue that relates to Wolverine every week, we will focus our energies on ONE key Wolverine appearance each week. Last week it was ‘Wolverine Origins’ #44. This upcoming week it will be ‘Wolverine: Weapon X’ #10. I hope this will encourage readers to interact more with jrpbsp and his reviews on a regular basis, because he truly does a herculean job for the site…
  2. To pick up the slack,  I will be adding Open Threads for every significant Wolverine appearance on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The goal is for readers to add their initial thoughts and comments on each appearance as soon as you’ve read the comic. Even if it’s a cursory thought on the artwork or characterization, I urge you to take part and make this website more interactive…
  3. On Fridays, I will encapsulate all of the minor Wolverine appearances in a catch-all Open Thread called, ‘The Rest of the Rest’ intended for light-hearted commenting, and of course, chronicling any other Wolverine appearances I might have missed that week…
  4. Wolverine News & Previews will remain the same, shooting for a Monday publish date, as this weekly feature seems to garner the most interest on regular basis…

If all goes according to plan, this will allow me to focus more time on the Wolverine Chronology itself, add a few new weekly features, like Wolverine Appearances by year. And who knows, I might even be able to get my web comic launched and my great American novel finished.

As always, let me know what you think. It gets awful quiet here when you don’t add your two cents in the comments below!

  1. I’m admittedly a bit sad to see lots of the detailed reviews go–it’s one of the main things I’ve been using to figure out what comics I might want to go out and buy. Still, I know what an amazing job you’ve done on this site and can only imagine how much time it must take. Thanks so much for all that hard work!

I hope the forums provide a good alternate source of reviews!

Thanks again for everything you do!

  2. It’s great to hear that you enjoy the detailed reviews so much.

It’s hard sometimes to gauge interest, so if enough of you want us to continue doing the reviews, that is something we can certainly try to keep doing.

So please add your views here, and make sure to leave a brief comment on all the reviews themselves. And if you use Twitter, consider retweeting the posts you like best.

If we see lots of comments on the posts and higher numbers on the retweets, it certainly boosts our enthusiasm and tells us that readers appreciate what we are generating.

    Thanks the quick comment!

  3. I’ll plan on doing that more. I check daily for your updates, so I definitely want you to realize how much I, at least, appreciate them! :)

  4. It is certainly nice to hear that at least someone enjoys the reviews. It does take a lot of time so it helps to know people like them.

  5. The Wolverine reviews are greatly appreciated. I don’t comment very much, but during my internet journeys, I make it a point to stop by & visit this site all the time just to read your post, so that I can see what’s going on with Logan & see where he’s going to be.

  6. I also appreciate the reviews, as they help separate the gold from the dross, and I keep them in mind for future purchases. I know a lot of work goes into the reviews, and they are very detailed. Perhaps the recaps of each issue could be briefer, with the major emphasis on jrpbsp’s critique. I’ve been more interested in the reviewer’s take than in every detail of plot in each issue.

Thanks to this site and the efforts of all involved, I am able to keep up with the new developments in the world of Wolverine. There is really nothing else as complete as this and no where else where someone new to the character can come with questions and find answers without “fanboy” ridicule. The helpfulness factor sets this site above and beyond. Thanks to DiG and his cohorts.

I am also happy to see that DiG will be continuing to update the Chronology, an invaluable resource.

I still would like to see an issue database here, at least for the Wolverine title series issues, similar to the one on the “abandoned” Alan Quan site, Wolverine’s R.E.A.L.M. This is where recaps of plots for each issue, along with a listing of the creative team, and perhaps a “rating” of each issue could go. Just a thought – it’s not like you don’t have enough on your plate (or the best Wolverine/Logan site out there), already! ;-)

  7. I miss the old Cover reviews you use to do. The ones that spot lighted the old Wolverine comic book covers.
